Stillborn, registration

You lost your baby, which is a heart-wrecking situation. Please accept our sincere condolences. We will do our utmost to help you in the registration process as best as we can. When your child is stillborn or dies shortly after birth, you need to register this in the municipality where your baby is born. You need to do this prior to the burial or cremation.

Your child is stillborn

You register in the municipality where your child is born. The municipality draws up a certificate of stillbirth.

Your child has lived for a short while

If your child dies in the same municipality as it was born in, you register its death there. When your child dies in another municipality, you need to register its death in this municipality.

Who is authorized for the registration?

  • One of the parents;
  • An undertaker;
  • Someone present during birth, for example a friend or relative;
  • Employees of the hospital.

Registration

An appointment is required for the registration. Please contact us by phone on +31 45 52 78 555.

Please bring with you

  • Valid identification of the person who is registering;
  • Death certificate, drawn up by the attending physician;
  • B-envelope containing medical information by the physician of the child (stillborn or deceased shortly after birth).

Permission to bury or cremate (certificate of burial)

In order to bury or cremate your child you need permission from us (a certificate of burial). This is immediately provided to you when you register the death of your child.

Your child was stillborn or died shortly after birth a long time ago

If you haven’t registered this at the time, you can still do so now. Was your child born in Brunssum? Please contact us so we can check whether or not a certificate was drawn up after all. If not, we will look into what is needed to draw up such a certificate now.

If there is a certificate concerning your child but without a first name? You can have this changed. Please contact us so we can look into what needs to be done in your case to add the forename(s) to the certificate.
